HOW TO DOWNLOAD YOUTUBE VIDEOS

Now a mature eight years old, it’s an understatement to say that YouTube is kind of a big deal. Since the launching of its first video in 2005 (the riveting “Me at the Zoo”), the site has grown to be a phenomenon, bolstered by its passionate community and accessed by hundreds of millions of people each day. However, how do you watch YouTube videos when you leave your network behind? Maybe you just absolutely need to watch the music video for “Gangnam Style” or Bieber’s “Baby” while on the go, without eating up all your cell phone data. Or maybe you just want to compile those cute, cuddly, can’t-get-enough-of-them cat videos for your personal enjoyment when your Wi-Fi is on the fritz.

Should you decide to trudge the grey area that is downloading YouTube videos for your untethered enjoyment, let us be your guide. Tempting? Yes. Legal? Not necessarily. Either way, here’s everything you need to know to about downloading YouTube videos. Also, check out our guide onhow to convert MP4s to MP3s if you’re looking to ditch the audio in favor of portability.
Choose the software

While YouTube is undertaking a pilot project to allow content owners the ability to make their content legally downloadable for free or for a small fee, the bulk of videos on the website are not as fortunate. Luckily there are a handful of software programs – from popular browser add-ons to stand-alone programs – that will allow you to download videos regardless of whether the content owner has made the video available.

NOTE: See disclaimer on the following page for the legality of downloading YouTube videos.

Some websites, browser add-ons, and programs simply take the URL associated with a particular video and download the videos in their original Flash format (FLV). However, most will convert the files into a more accessible format such as AVI or MP4 so you’re able to play them in the media player or device of your choice. The following are some of our top contenders and suggestions for the ultimate YouTube video downloader. Remain on the lookout to avoid installing any bundled toolbars or additional malware during installation.

Clip Converter (Web-based/Windows/Mac OS X/Free)

Now officially out of the beta phase, Clip Converter is an easy solution to for all your YouTube downloading needs. The web-based utility is entirely free, requires no additional software to run and can quickly download videos from YouTube, Dailymotion, IMDB, Metacafe, Myspace and many others. The tool features all the standard format types — from MP3s to WMVs — and even includes an option to edit embedded ID3 tags.

Plus, there is a simple browser add-on for Chrome, Firefox, Safari and even Opera as well as a sleek desktop version for any operating system your machine may be running on, allowing users to bypass the Clip Converter homepage all together. Ads are relatively few and far between, no matter which platform your using, making it one the least invasive and streamlined tools of any YouTube converter out there. No wonder it’s garnered nearly 270,000 Facebook likes since its initial launch.

VDownloader (Windows/Free)

As one of the flagship downloaders of the late 2000s, VDownloader has been making the rounds ever since early 2007. The interface can be overwhelming at first glance, but it’s fairly easy to navigate once you know you’re way around the software. Like TubeBox, the software features an extremely handy search tool that allows users to instantly scour YouTube, Daily Motion and Yahoo Video as well specified playlists, usernames and their own library. Output formats can be broadened to simple quality selections, such as “highest quality” and “smallest file size,” or narrowed to specific file types including those playable on the iPad and Nokia N800.

The program also monitors users’ clipboard, automatically pasting the video URL for downloading purposes whenever you copy it to your clipboard, and includes the ability to merge multiple clips into one for seamless playback and lengthier files. Other features, such as the built-in browser and DVD burner, give more advanced users several reasons to pick up the piece of freemium software. VDownloader isn’t overly flashy, but its packed with enough extras to make it stand on its own.

FSS Video Downloader (Windows/Free)

Lack of features often means light on footprint and FSS Video Downloader is no exception. The software is as basic as it gets, equipped with a single box where users can paste their video URL from sites like Google Video, Facebook and YouTube before choosing their desired save destination and hitting the “Download” button. Video format selection will vary from video to video based on availability, but common formats such as MP4, FLV and 3Gp are typically available as download options for most videos. There are no additional features — not even an option to rename your new video file upon download completion — but the software works as intended with a minimalistic design and no ads.

aTube Catcher (Windows/Free)

This software shines among the arsenal of the free downloaders for multiple reasons. First off, it allows you to download videos from YouTube, Comedy Central, Dailymotion, Google, and a plethora of other sites with ease. Secondly, the videos can be directly converted into more than 30 formats, from WAV to MP3, all from within the program. The software also hosts a variety of other built-in features including a voice recorder, a DVD/Blu-ray burner, a stream catcher and screen recorder.

ATube Catcher is occasionally buggy and the interface could use a bit of tuneup — it looks like a shoddy Windows program circa 1998 — but don’t let mere appearances and infrequent glitch dissuade you of the software’s overall functionality and rich feature set. However, if using the robust set seems daunting, there is a fantastic Help menu that includes a Web-based manual and links for downloading additional codecs among other tools. Oh, and did we mention the software is completely devoid of ads? That’s always a plus in our book.

TubeBox (Windows/Free)

As a newcomer to the downloader game, it would seem like TubeBox has a quite a bit of catching up to do. However, the software is some of the best on our list, toting an impressive search function that allows users to search and access specific videos via YouTube, Funny or Die, Vimeo and other online video portals. That program can download and convert multiple files simultaneously — a feature that can be set and tailored appropriately to the amount of available bandwidth — and is bundled with automatic link grabber that will import the video URL directly into the program’s download queue.

Download and conversion options, though limited, include everything from MP4 files for your Android and iPhone to WMV for Xbox 360 playback. You can even filter your search results by HD and 3D, the latter opening up a whole new world of the Web I didn’t know existed prior to writing this post. The interface is clean and uncomplicated even when minimized to compact mode, and the downloads often download just as quick as it takes to find them. And who doesn’t like a cute, wholly mammoth for a logo?

MacX YouTube Downloader (Mac OS X/Free)

MacX YouTube Downloader is one of the better downloaders exclusively for the Mac. The program is simple to install, navigate, and use. The default settings are great for beginners, but there is also a level of flexibility and customization that gives more experienced users a bit more to play with. Additional features include the ability to extract photos from YouTube videos and the automatic video detection that makes manually copy and pasting video URLs a thing of the digital past.

The downloader is quick, efficient, and offers a variety of formats and resolution choices for playback on everything from Android phones to Apple iPads. There’s also no need to add the videos to your favorite media player as the the tool will automatically do so upon download completion. The lustrous interface is a pleasure to use, as is the is the multi-threading and batch downloading technology that allows the simultaneous download and preview of any video in your queue. It’s definitely worth a look if you tend to stray from Windows-based software.

Easy YouTube Video Downloader (Web-based/Free)

The Mozilla Firefox extension is the go-to option when it comes to video-downloading browser add-ons. While Google Chrome and Safari both offer similar extensions, Easy YouTube Video Downloader is the most integrated and straightforward. The download and conversion speed is lightning quick and the 1080p full-HD video download option is a nice a touch – not to mention the extension works right within the YouTube page instead of utilizing external software or directing you elsewhere on the Web.

Once installed, you simply click the “Download” button featured below your desired video and select format from the drop-down menu of available options. Keep in mind the format types will vary depending on an individual video basis, but there are typically several popular format choices to chose from, such as MP4 and FLV, at any given moment. It’s also devoid of ads and hassle, making well worth checking out if you Firefox is you’re go-to browser of choice. Alternatively check out Best YouTube Downloader for Safari or Chrome YouTube Downloader.

Any Video Converter (Windows/Free)

Besides being one of our go-to choices for extracting audio from a video file, Any Video Converter is also a fantastic tool for downloading and converting videos from popular sites such as YouTube, Nicovideo and others. The software supports the conversion staples — AVI, WMV, MKV and more than 50 other accessible formats — as well as batch conversion and a customizable output management for tailoring your video for your desired device. Like Clip Converter, video files can be trimmed to a specified length by inputting the appropriate start and end times, and there is even a function that will allow you to merge multiple videos in varying formats into a single unified file.

The added video editing tools for cropping, editing codecs and the like is also a useful featuring that most YouTube downloaders lack. AVC doesn’t feature any intuitive URL grabber or search function like other programs on our list, but copy and pasting your video’s URL in the box is easy enough. It’s also impressively fast, has little trouble detecting the available video formats and comes bundled with a DVD and AVCHD burner for playback on both DVD and Blu-ray players. For across the board functionality and sheer convenience, AVC is one of the best bets on our list.

How to Create Horizontal Navigation Menu With Drop Down Submenus Using CSS in Blogger

The following drop down menu is made only with CSS, is a horizontal menu with sub-tabs and the right side has a rounded search. A menu is handy for those who do not require complex menus or prefer not to use one that requires scripts and/or too many images, also the installation and customization is quite simple, and to top it off is quite functional.

To see this drop down menu in action, visit this demo blog

Prior to doing anything, if you are using a Template made through Blogger Template Designer, then you should consider doing these changes in the template, otherwise the menu might not be displayed correctly:

From your Blogger's Dashboard, go to Template (make a backup < see the screenshot) > Edit HTML:

and search (CTRL + F) for the following line:

<b:section class='tabs' id='crosscol' maxwidgets='1' showaddelement='yes'>

Screenshot

Remove the code in red.
You may have many parts as the one in red, delete all you find.

....then find this section in your template:

/* Tabs
----------------------------------------------- */
...and remove all that is within it, until you reach to the Headings part.

/* Tabs
----------------------------------------------- */
.tabs-outer {
overflow: hidden;
position: relative;
background: $(tabs.background.color) $(tabs.background.gradient) repeat scroll 0 0;
}

#layout .tabs-outer {
overflow: visible;
}

.tabs-cap-top, .tabs-cap-bottom {
position: absolute;
width: 100%;

border-top: 1px solid $(tabs.border.color);

}

.tabs-cap-bottom {
bottom: 0;
}

.tabs-inner .widget li a {
display: inline-block;

margin: 0;
padding: .6em 1.5em;

font: $(tabs.font);
color: $(tabs.text.color);

border-top: 1px solid $(tabs.border.color);
border-bottom: 1px solid $(tabs.border.color);
border-$startSide: 1px solid $(tabs.border.color);
}

.tabs-inner .widget li:last-child a {
border-$endSide: 1px solid $(tabs.border.color);
}

.tabs-inner .widget li.selected a, .tabs-inner .widget li a:hover {
background: $(tabs.selected.background.color) $(tabs.background.gradient) repeat-x scroll 0 -100px;
color: $(tabs.selected.text.color);
}
/* Headings
----------------------------------------------- */
Then add this to where the code has been removed (instead of the code in green):

#crosscol ul {z-index: 200; padding:0 !important;}
#crosscol li:hover {position:relative;}
#crosscol ul li {padding:0 !important;}
.tabs-outer {z-index:1;}
Having done this, we can finally add our menu.

How to Apply For Google Adsense and Actually Get Approved

I first applied to Google Adsense back in 2005 or 2006. Since that time, I have applied and gotten approved many times for related business entities or helping others set up their own Google Adsense accounts. Each time, my applications have been approved to start using the Google Adsense program, so I feel like I can offer some solid advice on how to make sure you get your own approved account.

Now, if you have been following my blog, you know that I had a bit of a set back with Google Adsense, but I am now actively using Google Adsense as though nothing happened. The reality is that Google Adsense is the best contextual marketing program on the market with the most advertisers and the highest payouts. I love the Adsense program and definitely recommend those involved with niche websites to at least get started with Adsense.

To be honest, its shocking to hear how many people get declined from Google Adsense when they apply. I’ve received many emails from readers saying that their applications were declined. I’ve read complaints on forums or comments about the difficulty of getting approved with Google.

I personally have never experienced this. But I’ve also been very careful when I apply. Below you will find the process I have used to apply and get approved to Google Adsense.

In a nutshell, there are 5 steps to applying and getting approved to the Adsense affiliate program.

1. Create a Valuable and Good Looking Site

Google wants to know that you have an valuable resource! So, in order to increase your chances of approval, you need to create original, articulate, and useful content! This should go without saying for any website; however, I can guarantee you that people have applied to Google Adsense with autoblogs, or copied articles from EzineArticles.com. Then they wonder why they didn’t get approved.

My advice is to have at least 10 well-written articles of 500 words or more each on your site before applying. In addition, I would have a great “About Page”, “Contact” page, and a “Privacy Policy” page. The privacy policy needs to include this information supplied by Google here. You can find a free privacy policy generator that I have used right here.

In addition, you are more likely to get approved if you have a great looking theme or site. I recommend using a premium theme (if using WordPress) if possible. You can still use a free theme, but do your best to find one that looks high quality.

Finally, to give your site an extra boost on the “look” score, I recommend having a logo designed. You can do it yourself, or you can hire someone on Fiverr.com if you are cheap (like me). For $5 you can take a generic theme and make it look much nicer with a custom logo.

Overall, make sure that your site is fully developed with content, logo, layout changes BEFORE you submit the site to Google.

Quick Tip! Remember, you CANNOT apply to Google Adsense using a site that has ever been used for Google Adsense before.

2. Apply Online

You can apply online to Google Adsense right here. Here you will supply your website URL,Individual name or Business Entity, contact name (you if applying for yourself; could be someone different if you are applying as a business entity), mailing address, phone number,email address, and perhaps one other basic bit of information. You are not required to submit your TIN or bank account information at this stage yet. This will happen after you get approved.

Make sure to give accurate phone and physical address information. You will be REQUIRED to verify your phone number and they will mail you a PIN to the address you supplied. However, this does not occur until step 4.

The online application itself only take a few minutes to fill out.

3. Get Temporarily Approved and Place Ads

Approval usually occurs within 24 to 48 hours now. If you follow my steps above for creating a unique site that has never been involved with Google Adsense before, you should have no issues getting approved quickly.

At that point, you will receive an approval email from Google that explains the process. Essentially you are “temporarily” approved until you meet other verification steps.

This means you can start placing ads on your site and you will see the clicks and revenue coming into your account. Google is simply monitoring your activity to make sure you are not clicking your own ads or sending suspicious traffic. As long as you leave your ads alone and don’t do anything suspicious – you should be fine.

In addition, you can also add the Google Adsense code to ANY of your other websites! You don’t have to apply for each new site. Once you have any approved account, you can use the same Adsense code on all your sites.

4. Getting Verified: Pin Verification, Bank Account and Tax Information, Phone Number

However, before you get paid, you need to verify a few things. First, Google will send you a PIN verification in the mail. This will come after a week to 10 days usually.

There is no rush, but at some point you will need to verify your bank account and submit your tax information. The bank account must be in the same name that you applied with. (So, if you applied with your business entity, the bank account must be for the business entity).

To get paid by ACH (the best way), you need to supply your bank account number and routing number. Then Google will do a test deposit of a few cents. You will then input this amount in your Google Adsense account to finish the verification. Then you can start getting paid monthly!

You will also need to supply your TIN number and complete the necessary tax documents (this is all handled online by Google and only takes a couple of minutes).

If you haven’t previously verified your phone number, you will need to do so. Google will place a test call with an automated code to you. Input the code, and you are good to go!

5. Be Smart with Your Ads

Finally, be smart about how you handle your Adsense code. Only put it on sites that meet theGoogle Adsense guidelines here. Don’t click your own ads and NEVER ask anyone else to ever click your own ads! This will get your account shut down.

Overall, stay in compliance with Google and enjoy the deposits coming to your account each month.

These are the exact steps that I have used many times to get myself, my business entities, or the accounts of others approved to Google Adsense. On the surface, they are fairly straightforward; but trust me, lots of people never get approved.

This could be for a number of reasons ranging from low quality content, to suspicious activity. But if you follow the 5 steps that I’ve outlined here, you should get approved without any issues.

Have anything to add to the discussion? I’d love to hear your thoughts below.

12 Things to Do Before Applying for Google Adsense

I know many of you want to make some good money with adsense right?

But it’s not easy to get into adsense program now a days. You have to do few things before applying for adsense.

Google Adsense is world’s larges Ads Network and works at Pay Per Click system. It’s paying rates are better than all of other networks which is the biggest reason it is so popular to all Bloggers and Webmasters. But since everybody is running behind them, they have made the approval system very strict. You make little mistakes and get disapproved every time. So you need a complete guidance and list of thing that you need to do before applying for Google Adsense and supposing that you are ready.

12 Things to Do Before Applying for Google Adsense

1. Privacy Policy :

One of the common mistakes that every Blogger makes and that I made many times before finally getting approved. Even though there are people out there who say that having a Privacy Policy for a Blog doesn’t makes sense but they are wrong.

A Privacy actually describes to your readers about what they will get on your Blog , what they should do and what they should not. So obviously there is nothing bad in having a Privacy Policy. While it can affect somehow on your Adsense Approval, you must give it a try. You can write it yourself or find Privacy Policy Generators online (You don’t need a lawyer anyway).
2. About Page

An About has major role and importance if you don’t want to apply for Adsense. But when it comes to Adsense, they are about Zero chances of getting approved if you are not showing this page.About page simply describes about you and your Blog . This will not only help you establish a relationship with readers but it will also make them trust upon you.
3. Contact Us Page

It’s quite obvious that everyone has his/her own opinion. What one of your readers likes may be bothering someone else. Than it is better to give them opportunity to speak up to you and tell how they feel about your Blog, what they want to be edited , what they liked or hated.

It will also show the Google Adsense Team that is viewing your site that you actually care about your readers and not only the money and Adsense.
4. Name/ Email Verification

Make sure to put you Name and Email address in some easily visible area like About Me and Contact Us pages. It will confirm to Google Adsense Team that it is the same person who applied for Adsense and not some spam, crappy bots.
5. Age Verification

I’m really laughing out typing this.

Why?

Because this is where I encountered a problem. Instead of 18, I accidentally published my age as 17 while on Adsense Application Form, it was accurately 18.

Hence there started a problem . Because Google Adsense is not for under 18 people. I realized this problem after being disproved a few times without any legitimate reason. So I advice you to be accurate while typing your age.
6. Minimum Number of Posts

There is no exact answer. Not even one. Because I have seen very established Blogs with 400+ posts and their owner telling me that Google Adsense is rejecting them while somewhere ,people with 40,50 posts are enjoying making money. Exactly what I said that there is no actual answer. However, we can always predict things. According to my experience , you should only apply after you have more than 70 posts. Posts length should must be 500+ words too.

Read : Difference Between Short Length Post Vs Length Posts – What’s Best?
7. Design

Your Blog is the biggest thing after Content. This represents your expertise ,experience and Professionalism. So be careful because anything can kill your Chances.
8. Content Type

Be careful with what type of content you are publishing. Because it is something that truly matters. Google Adsense is not for Pornographic, Illegal Items, Drugs or other Blogs / Sites like that. Also Adsense team won’t be willing to allow you to step in if you own a Non English Blog. Having posts shorter than 300 words in length is also Red Signal.
9. Providing Value

Don’t complain about not making money and don’t clearly state that your are Blogging for Money only and have no other interest in it. Because this will show them that you will not be providing values to your readers any day. Hence another Red Light glows up.
10. Top Level Domain

Those are gone far away when Adsense used to approve “Blogspot” and “WordPress.com” Blogs. As for today, you must have your own unique domain that specifies your Blog. If you don’t have one yet, stop dreaming about getting approved with Sub domains and go buy a Top Level Domain.

Another important thing about domain is it’s age. Because for most of Asian Countries, Adsense has placed an age restriction. They don’t accept any sites before they are 6 months old.
11. Other Ad Networks

If you have any other Ads placed like Chitika, Clicksor or anything, it’s time to drop them off.

Even Google Adsense allows you to use other Ad Networks along with them, it’s better to remove the ads before Applying and don’t put them back until you get a reply from Adsense Team.
12. Paid Traffic

Google hates the sites that are getting Paid traffic and mostly penalizes them so there is not a damn chance of getting Adsense Approval letter for a site that is getting paid traffic. You can bring traffic from Search Engines or any other way you want but if you want to earn via Google Adsense the right way, paid traffic is not a solution.
