“Baba Suwe” Loses Court N25 million compensatory damages

Babatunde Omidina popularly known as Baba suwe will not be compensated for the unfavorable condition and the public embarrassment meted to him by the “infallible” arm of government’s agency NDLEA, saddled with the responsibility of hounding suspected drug offenders for prosecution

The Court of Appeal in Lagos today set aside the N25 million compensatory damages earlier awarded Lagos comedian, Babatunde Omidina " Baba Suwe " over a prolonged detention by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) last year.

In the ruling, the Court of Appeal re-affirmed the right of the NDLEA to investigate, arrest, detain and prosecute drug suspects as long as the agency acts within the law.

The court said the NDLEA had not violated Mr. Omidina's rights because it sought and got court orders from the federal high court to keep him in custody after the arrested him on the suspicion that he had ingested hard drugs.

The Court of Appeal came down heavily on the Lagos High court judge that awarded the damages against the NDLEA, describing the decision as oppressive and burdensome to an agency of government carrying out its statutory duties.

Baba Suwe's attorneys led by civil rights activist, Bamidele Aturu, has vowed to take the matter before the Supreme Court.

Michael Jackson’s daughter Paris okay after suicide attempt

Michael Jackson’s teen daughter, Paris Jackson, was hospitalized early Wednesday morning in what is being described as a “possible suicide attempt.”

Paris was taken out of her Calabasas, Calif., family house on a stretcher at around 2 a.m., reports TMZ, and taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital.

The 911 call came in at 1:27 a.m., reports TMZ, noting that the caller said it was a possible overdose.

But the King of Pop’s ex-wife and Paris’ mom, Debbie Rowe, tells Entertainment Tonight that Paris, 15, was “rushed to the hospital with cuts on her wrist.” Rowe tells ET that Jackson has had “a lot going on (lately).”

Katherine Jackson’s lawyer, Perry Sanders, tells USA TODAY: “Being a sensitive 15-year-old is difficult no matter who you are. It is especially difficult when you lose the person closest to you. Paris is physically fine and is getting appropriate medical attention. Please respect her privacy and the family’s privacy.”

Paris recently rekindled her relationship with Rowe, and has been spending time with her for the first time since Michael and Debbie divorced in 1999. Mom and daughter were spotted celebrating Paris’ 15th birthday at Ahi Sushi in Studio City, Calif., on April 3.

ET also reports that the teen was ticked off about not being able to go to a June 6 Marilyn Manson concert.

Rowe’s lawyer, Eric George, issued a statement to USA TODAY that said, “We appreciate everyone’s thoughts for Paris at this time and the respect for the family’s privacy.”

CNN says two sources are confirming the story, with one source, who was at the hospital, adding, “She’s going to be OK.”

Paris’ Twitter page is filled with cryptic and eerie tweets of late. The most recent one is: “yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away now it looks as though they’re here to stay.”

Michael Jackson died on June 25, 2009.

Kirk Anthony Of Smooth FM Is Dead

Mr Kirk Anthony Derrick, Jamaican-born Director of Programmes, Smooth 98.1FM Lagos is dead . He died in the early hours of this morning at the age of 53. Kirk collapsed a few hours after his show yesterday, He was rushed to Reddington hospital in Victoria Island where he was pronounced dead. He is survived by his wife and children



May his soul rest in peace..amen!

Curtain Call: Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj Leaving American Idol

Buxom rapper Nicki Minaj and R&B singer Mariah Carey will not be returning as judges for the next season of American Idol.
Nicki Minaj, on Thursday, May 30, 2013 posted on her Twitter page ‘time to focus on the music’, a few hours after Carey had announced she wasn’t coming back so she could focus on her upcoming tour.
The pair had a turbulent relationship on the show, often bickering and almost getting into physical fights.
Long-time judge Randy Jackson announced earlier this month that he was leaving the show before the 12th season finale which was won by Candice Glover.
Others who have left in the past include Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez and Simon Cowell.

Why Olamide Rejected DBanj

For a while now, D’Banj and his management team have been planning to sign in rapper Olamide to the his label, however, Olamide turned down the Koko master’s offer, preffering to roll alone for now.

Olamide, who does not want to play the fool at this phase of his career, politely told D’Banj that he was not ready to surrender some of his powers, especially having to be booked for shows only by D’Banj’s management outfit, pleaded for time to even think about the offer as he still wants to work with his present team and taking things as they come for now.
