Qualities of A Good Actor

There is always someone who can step on stage and steal the whole show. They are such a good actors/actress that they pull you into their world and leave you on the edge of your seat. Keep reading to find out how to be a great actor/actress and show strong emotions that will captivate your audience. 1. The main idea in being a good actor or actress is expressing emotion and what you're feeling. The audience needs to know what is happening and to feel about certain situations. 2 Have good posture. It's important to remember that something as small as good posture can make a big difference. Not only does it make you look more confident, but it will also make you feel more confident because it will force you to stand tall but don't arch your back to far. 3 Monitor your speed and volume. When reciting lines, it's tempting to blaze through them as fast as you can. Be careful not to over exaggerate, though. Slowing down too much will make you sound robotic and will bore your audience. Think about how someone would actually deliver these words. Likewise, be sure to project your voice enough that you can be heard in the back of the theatre, but avoid yelling. 4 Play with emphasis. Think about the subtext of every line, and emphasize accordingly. It may not sound important, but emphasis can have a huge role in anything you say. I love you means something completely different than I love you. 5 Put yourself in the place of your character. You can not adequately represent a character unless you can get inside their head. Even though your words are scripted out, your actions and blocking aren't always written in stone. In addition, knowing your character well will help you improvise should someone forget their lines. 6 Don't break the fourth wall. Unless it is specifically stated, avoid acknowledging the audience. Doing so will make it easier for them to remember that you're acting, and thus make the entire production less believable. 7 Make impressions from popular movies. Make sure you plan them in front of the mirror first so you know it looks good. 8 Think before you say, so you don't pull the whole "um" thing or stutter. 9 Make body movements! Jazz hands, thumbs up, a dramatic lean on your hip, roll your eyes, stick your tongue out, shuffle your feet, flip your hair, smile, stare, anything works, just try not to make it seem fake! 10 Be aware of things that you do when you're nervous. Avoid playing with your hair, hiding your hands in your sleeves, or shuffling your feet. Instead, deal with your nerves by taking a deep breath and drinking some water. Reassure yourself that you'll be fine. 11 Try to do actions someone would really do.For example,if you're sad, show it in your eyes, not only your mouth and your voice. If you're angry, tense yourself, glare, make it seem real! 12 Never let your understudy say something to you on set to make you quit! TIPS The character you are playing is NOT you. You become that character. Recite your lines to yourself in a mirror. See how you look and your hand gestures and then make changes to better fit the scene and the character. Be passionate about what you are doing. If you like something don't be afraid to show it. Keep trying don't give up. Don't let haters get you down, but take constructive criticism well. Pretend that those potential investors in you aren't there. Pretend you are standing in front of your mirror at home, not in a room in front of an audition panel. Be confident and be the true you. Watch a lot of plays and movies. You can get impressions from there. Remember, use your whole body to show your feelings. Not only your voice, this can make a big difference and make your work way more believable! The pressure of a potential director is pretty intimidating. To practice performing in front of others use family and friends to be comfortable. With all of this, i can assure you of being on your way to STARDOM.
