Police Arrest ‘EFCC Boys’ Leader For Murder, Vandalism In Lagos

A youth accused of perpetrating a series of crimes, such as murder and vandalism in Somolu, Bariga and Akoka areas of Lagos state has been arrested by the State Police Command.

The suspect, Olumide Adebayo, A.K.A. Ogbor, is the head of a gang known as EFCC Boys which is affiliated with the Eiye Confraternity, according to the police.

Ogbor was declared wanted after an April 9, 2013 incident where about 100 vehicles were vandalised, with many people sustaining injuries when urchins, otherwise known as Area boys on reprisal, invaded four streets in Akoka and Pedro in Somolu Local Government Area.

The hoodlums, including Ogbor, arrived Akoka through the Somolu Market pretending to be holding a candlelight procession for a man, identified simply as Old Skool, who was allegedly stabbed to death by some youths during a rally organised by the council Chairman, Mr. Gbolahan Bago-Stowe.

In the late hours of Sunday, Ogbor was attempting to rob a motorist in Onipanu when policemen arrested him.

A police source, who craved anonymity, said, “At about 12am, Ogbor was arrested by the police at Onipanu, where he was harassing a motorist. Ogbor is a leading member of the EFCC boys, who have been terrorising residents for quite some time.

“He ignited the incident that led to the looting and destruction of vehicles in Oreofero , Popoola and Adesina streets. He has been transferred to the Area H Command, Ogudu.

Following Ogbor’s arrest, it was learnt that policemen attached to the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, arrived Area H and requested that the suspect be handed over to them as they were also investigating him for other crimes.

The police source said, “Detectives from FEDSARS came to take the suspect away on Monday afternoon after presenting a series of petitions that had been written against him.

“We are also in search of other members of his gang, Rasaki Oseni aka Elewure; Kunle Eyin Bouncing among others. Members of the Akeju community in Somolu reported that Ogbor and some of the cultists stormed a carnival at Akeju earlier this year and were shooting indiscriminately and injured many, including a soldier.”

Confirming the arrest, Police Public Relations Officer, FEDSRARS, Lekan Ogundare, said he was being investigated for a series of crimes ranging from robbery to murder.

“He (Ogbor) is in our custody. Investigations are ongoing. He has been accused of perpetrating series of crimes in the state,” he said.
